About the Midwest Region
Led by Maggie Bischoff and Carol Martorano, the Midwest region boasts states with many Montessori schools and other states with few, it is our second largest region for AMS member schools (including 29 public Montessori schools) and teacher education programs. This region covers Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Meet the Commissioners
Maggie Bischoff
Midwest Co-Commissioner
Maggie Bischoff (she/her) is the program director at Brookview Montessori School in Benton Harbor, MI. Throughout the past 22 years, Maggie has worked with students and families of all ages and stages in a variety of roles including classroom assistant, lead teacher, and department coordinator. Maggie is a Michigan Montessori Society board member, a graduate of the AMS Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program, and a field consultant for Seton Montessori Institute and CGMS. Maggie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Family Studies from Western Michigan University and is AMS-credentialed (Infant & Toddler, Elementary I-II).
Carol Martorano
Midwest Co-Commissioner
Carol Martorano has 28 years of experience in the Montessori community. Carol has taught at the Elementary and Secondary levels, served as a director of education and head of school, and served on the board of the Association of Illinois Montessori Schools (AIMS) for thirteen years. She was an Elementary instructor and advisor at Seton Montessori Institute for 4 years. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Montessori education and her Master's in educational leadership. Carol is currently the Upper Elementary Program Coordinator and an Elementary II teacher at Rogers Park Montessori School in Chicago, IL. AMS-credentialed (Elementary I-II, Administrator).
