My Montessori journey began in Dallas, Texas, where I was born and raised in a traditional Indian family—my father, an engineer, and my mother, a nurse and midwife. While studying child development in nursing school, my mother discovered the work of Dr. Maria Montessori and felt an immediate connection to the philosophy. She enrolled my sister and me in a local Montessori school, believing it would provide the strongest foundation. Her interest quickly became a passion. In 1980, she earned her AMS Early Childhood credential and later founded the first Montessori school in Plano. I grew up watching her build a school from the ground up, observing both the quiet triumphs and daily challenges. I did not know it at the time, but those experiences would shape the course of my life.

Today, I have the privilege of wearing many hats: Head of School, Director of an AMS-affiliated Teacher Education Program, Montessori parent, and President of the AMS Board of Directors. Each role reflects a different chapter in my journey, but all are rooted in the same deep commitment to Montessori education.

Montessori is not just a method—it is a way of understanding and honoring human development. It fosters independence, curiosity, responsibility, and respect for others. In a world that often moves too fast, Montessori allows children to grow with purpose, supported by guides who understand that learning is neither a race nor a rote process. It is a philosophy that meets children where they are and helps them discover who they can become.

AMS has been an anchor throughout my career, offering the structure, support, and connection that so many educators rely on. From teacher education to professional development to peer networks, AMS has created space for learning and leadership to evolve. As we look ahead, I am proud to support its mission and contribute to the strategic direction that will guide our next chapter.

This year, as AMS celebrates 65 years, I am honored to serve as President of the AMS Board of Directors. My personal goal is simple but deeply important: to connect with as many AMS members as possible—to listen, to learn, and to celebrate the incredible work happening in schools and teacher education programs around the world. These connections will inform and strengthen the work of the AMS Board as we set priorities, plan for the future, and ensure our decisions reflect the needs and voices of our community.

Montessori has given so much to my life—as a child, a parent, an educator, and a leader. Now, I look forward to giving back in service to this community, supporting the continued growth of AMS and the next generation of Montessori educators.
