Upcoming Events

Celebrating 150 Years of Maria Montessori: Quotable Conversations
Wednesday, September 18 at 4:00 PM (Eastern)
Cost: Free, registration required

In these town hall conversations we’ll celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Montessori by exploring what her writing means to us. We’ll discuss one of her well-known quotes and talk about how we can apply it to our practices today and what it means in the broader pedagogy of Montessori education. This informal online conversation will be facilitated by Josh Shanklin, AMS director of learning & professional development, and will provide an opportunity to reflect on core Montessori philosophy, while connecting with fellow educators from around the world.

Our quote for September 18 is…

“This book of methods compiled by one person alone, must be followed by many others. It is my hope that, starting from the individual study of the child educated with our method, other educators will set forth the results of their experiments. These are the pedagogical books, which await us in the future.” Maria Montessori, The Montessori Method, Translated by Anne E. George

Our quote for October 23 is…

"Love is more than the electricity which lightens our darkness, more than the etheric waves that transmit our voices across space, more than any of the energies that man has discovered and learned to use. Of all things love is the most potent. All that men can do with their discoveries depends on the conscience of him who uses them. But this energy of love is given us so that each shall have it in himself." —Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind

Our quote for December 4 is…

“The real preparation for education is the study of ones’ self. The training of the teacher who is to help life is something far more than the learning of ideas. It includes the training of character; it is a preparation of spirt.”—Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind
