School Support

Exploring plants

Schools join the American Montessori Society to strengthen their programs and to contribute to the worldwide Montessori Movement. We value the diverse perspectives of our member schools. Montessori schools both public and private are represented on the AMS board of directors.

Schools Share Knowledge

AMS provides member schools with structured and unstructured opportunities to learn from each other. Montessori educators from around the globe participate in networking and peer-coaching at conferences and heads-of-schools retreats. Year-round communication between professional AMS members is facilitated by online listservers, one for teachers and one for heads of schools. Member schools also share news and perspectives through our electronic newsletter, the AMS Prism.

Every School Benefits

Member schools find support from AMS tailored to their needs at every stage of development.

Information about how to start a Montessori school is available from AMS at no charge. We offer guidance to school leaders from the planning stage through opening day, including details to consider when budgeting, making staffing decisions, and choosing appropriate materials for classrooms at each age level.

AMS schools advertise open positions on our Web site at no charge, and parents and prospective staff can easily find member schools in the AMS school directory.

Every 2 years, AMS conducts a Compensation and Benefits Survey for member schools. On alternate years, a Tuition Survey is prepared. Both provide invaluable information to help member schools remain competitive.

Schools that have been full members of AMS for a year or more may apply for accreditation. Upon approval of their application, schools must successfully complete an intensive 1 to 2 year self-evaluation in order to attain the highest level of recognition awarded by the American Montessori Society.

Hands-on Resources

Annual conferences feature world-class speakers and a wide variety of professional workshops. AMS Webinars extend the learning by bringing high-demand topics to educators’ desktops. AMS conferences and Webinars are open to both members and non-members.

AMS schools receive our quarterly professional magazine, Montessori Life, with permission to reprint articles at no charge to share with faculty and parents. They purchase AMS brochures and other publications at a discount, as well as classroom materials and furniture from Nienhuis Montessori USA. Member schools may also offer their employees various optional insurance plans.
