About the Event
The American Montessori Society (AMS) is hosting the AMS Regional Symposium 2024 – 2025, a series of exciting events designed to foster collaboration and learning within the Montessori community. This event will explore current best practices alongside the enduring wisdom of Maria Montessori’s philosophy, creating a space for educators from diverse backgrounds and experiences to connect and inspire one another.
The event will take place in five exciting locations:
- September 28, 2024 – Houston, TX
- October 19, 2024 – Tacoma, WA
- November 16, 2024 – Waukesha, WI
- April 12, 2025 – Brooklyn, NY
- May 17, 2025 – Palo Alto, CA
Qualifications for Workshop Presenters
- Lead presenter must have experience presenting to adults in a group setting, such as teaching at a teacher education program, presenting to teachers at your school, or presenting at a regional conference or symposium, sponsored by AMS or another organization.
- For topics related to Montessori curriculum: Credential at the level of target audience (Infant & Toddler, Early Childhood, Administrator, etc.) and minimum of five years of experience in a Montessori classroom at this level.
- For topics related to administration: Minimum of five years of experience as an administrator in a Montessori school, an administrator/instructor in a teacher education program, or a professional on the topic.
- For workshops on theory and/or information related to specialized fields: Appropriate degree or advanced studies and minimum of five years of experience in the topic field.
- For research workshops: A postgraduate degree and/or supervision by a faculty advisor in a university setting and experience conducting and presenting research in a professional environment. Action research is also welcome.
Evaluation Criteria
Diversity of speakers and topics will be a critical factor in selecting presenters for the AMS Regional Symposium. AMS values diversity and works to ensure the symposia represent a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and ideas that reflect our AMS membership, the Montessori community, and the landscape of education as a whole.
Rules of Participation
- All presenters must be included on this form. Presenters may not be added after the proposal has been submitted.
A maximum of two proposals may be submitted by any individual, regardless of whether as lead presenter or co-presenter. - Proposals for commercial purposes will not be accepted.
- Presenters are not permitted to advertise, promote, or sell products or services during their presentations.
- Individuals who receive an acceptance email from AMS must respond by the date specified or their opportunity to present will be forfeited.
- Accepted workshops receive up to two complimentary symposium registrations, to be used by presenters or panelists participating in that workshop and included in this proposal. Complimentary registrations are not transferable. For workshops and panels with more than two presenters, registrations will be automatically assigned to the first two presenters listed alphabetically.
- Presenters will not be paid or reimbursed for travel, time, materials, or other expenses incurred.
Presenters should be able to reasonably commute to their chosen symposium location at their own expense. AMS seeks to highlight local voices in the communities hosting the Regional Symposium.
