Demonstration Montessori Elementary Classroom
Friday, March 16 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
AMS and Valley Montessori School (AMS-accredited) are proudly collaborating to offer a demonstration Montessori elementary classroom. This temporary environment, constructed on-site at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, especially for the AMS 2012 Annual Conference, will feature Valley Montessori’s elementary teachers guiding their students ages 6 – 9 through a 3-hour work period—the uninterrupted block of work time that is a hallmark of Montessori education.
Our classroom is inspired by the immensely popular “glass classroom” constructed for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, where, for 4 months thousands of visitors were awed by the “miracle children” diligently working in a Montessori classroom setting.
All conference-goers are invited to come watch the demonstration classroom in action. Docents will provide observers with an overview and will be available to answer questions. In the case of crowding, observation times may be assigned to insure optimum accessibility.
Classroom furnishings, including a wide array of specially designed Montessori learning materials, as well as child-sized furniture, are provided by Nienhuis Montessori.
Note: Valley Montessori School is also participating in our pre-conference day of Tours of Schools & Area Attractions.
