Advocacy Training for Montessori Public Policy

Target Audience: All

This workshop will provide information about becoming an advocate for excellence in Montessori education at state, local, and national levels. You will learn about legislative and regulatory processes germane to the education policy world, how to work with the media, and how to build strong coalitions for action. You will also learn about the Montessori Public Policy Initiative—a collaboration between AMS and the Association Montessori International/USA—and what the group is doing to support effective policies to protect authentic Montessori implementation.

About the Presenters

Sharon Damore

Sharon Damore, PhD, is an adjunct faculty member of educational leadership at DePaul University, in Chicago, IL, and a lecturer for Seton Montessori Institute, in Clarendon Hills, IL. A member of the AMS Board of Directors and chair emerita of the AMS Research Committee, she is a founding council member of the Montessori Public Policy Initiative. AMS-credentialed (Early Childhood).

Denise Monnier

Denise Monnier, MA, is head of school at Fox Valley Montessori School, in Aurora, IL. She is also associate director of the Montessori Public Policy Initiative and executive director of the Association of Illinois Montessori Schools.

Wendy Shenk-Evans

Wendy Shenk-Evans is director of Christian Family Montessori School, in Washington, D.C., and chair of the Montessori Public Policy Initiative.

Ashley LiBetti Mitchel

Ashley LiBetti Mitchel, MPP, conducts research and policy analysis, specializing in early childhood education, teacher preparation, and charter schools, for Bellwether Education Partners, in Washington, D.C. Her work has been featured by C-SPAN, U.S. News & World Report, the Huffington Post, the Washington Post, The 74, and the Hechinger Report.
