From the Organization

Wauwatosa Montessori School is a public Montessori school within the Wauwatosa School District. Our school opened in 2012 with the goal of providing high quality public education through the Montessori curriculum and approach to child development. Our school is located at 12121 West North Avenue. All Wauwatosa residents are eligible and encouraged to apply for enrollment each February through the lottery system. At Wauwatosa Montessori School we celebrate the diversity that each child and family brings to our school learning environment. In the 23-24 school year, our community reflected the following racial, ethnic, disability status, and socioeconomic diversity: 4.5% of students identify as Asian, 4.5% of students identify as Black or African American, 9% of students identify as Hispanic or Latino, 68.5% identify as white, and 13.5% identify as 2 or more races. Further, 14.6% of our students have identified disabilities. 11.8% of our students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. As an equity-focused Montessori learning community, our staff are trained to be culturally responsive, anti-racist, and anti-biased educators and we strive to be advocates for all children every day.
Wauwatosa Montessori School’s mission is to provide children with an authentic Montessori education that will foster a love of learning, self-confidence, personal creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Our child-centered program assists individual children with discovering their true potential by nurturing their intelligence and creativity through an environment and methodology that is designed to facilitate the development of the independence and a sense of personal empowerment.
Our Montessori classrooms are structured to support child development by the prepared Montessori teacher within a multi-age learning environment equipped with materials designed to foster multisensory learning. Our Montessori primary classrooms ("Children’s House") serve children in grades 4K and 5K; our Montessori Lower Elementary classrooms serve children in grades 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades; and our Montessori Upper Elementary classrooms serve children in grades 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Our Adolescent Program serves students in 7th and 8th grade. The multi-age groupings and their respective classroom designs at Wauwatosa Montessori School meet the needs of children and adolescents through the methodology that Dr. Montessori described during her fifty years of child development research.
