A good parent-teacher conference is like a good conversation. Each participant should have the opportunity to give and receive information. Yet, parent-teacher conference time can sometimes be stressful for all parties—as well as physically, and even emotionally, exhausting.

This webinar will help you prepare for and conduct regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences. Ideas will be shared for creating opportunities for productive, open communication, and avoiding common pitfalls. You will be introduced to techniques for recognizing, working with and relating to various parental “types.” Tips for preparing the physical setting where conferences are conducted, as well as for helping parents prepare to meet you, the teacher, will be provided. Special focus will be given to how to write positive and professional reports. And, handouts that can help both teachers and parents to prepare for conferences will be shared.

Learning Outcomes:

  • An understanding of how to prepare for presenting children’s development and progress to parents through the use of effective recordkeeping
  • Insights into effective communications with parents, including how to share difficult messages, and possibly even negative messages, in a positive and coonstructive way
  • The ability to recognize different parental types, and ideas for how to relate to them
  • Insights into how to prepare the physical setting of parent-teacher conferences
