March 5, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

It is with sincere regrets that I announce my acceptance of the resignation of Sara Wilson, AMS Senior Director of School Accreditation & School Improvement. Her last day at AMS will be April 27, 2018.

During her 6-year tenure at AMS, Sara has accomplished much for both AMS and the wider Montessori communities. Under her leadership, AMS formalized partnerships with over 20 accrediting agencies that enable schools to receive multiple accreditations simultaneously through a streamlined process, and she made significant progress for state-level recognition as an approved accreditor. In addition, two recent AMS initiatives were a direct result of her leadership: the Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program and the Pathway of Continuous School Improvement. These programs demonstrate AMS’s commitment to our future leaders and the quality of our schools.

As an outward face to the larger education and accrediting arenas, Sara has advocated for Montessori education through a strong, proactive, and collective voice. She is currently serving as the secretary of the Executive Committee and the AMS representative to the National Council for Private School Accreditation, and she has been a member of the Montessori Leaders Collaborative.

It has been a pleasure to work with Sara and I am pleased that she will be with us through the spring as we make this transition. Along with my other staff colleagues, I wish her ALL the best as she begins a new chapter in her life.

Upon her departure from AMS, Sara will be assuming the position of Director of Accreditation for the Association of Independent Schools in New England, one of the organizations with which AMS partners in the accreditation process.

Should you wish to make contact with Sara before her final day at AMS on April 27, I’m sure she would be happy to hear from you.

Details regarding our search process to fill the position that Sara will be leaving will be outlined in a future correspondence. While we recognize the tremendous void being left in Sara’s departure, we also celebrate the advocacy and improvements that she brought to AMS.

Warm Regards,

Timothy Purnell AMS Executive Director
