October 10, 2014—The American Montessori Society’s school accreditation program has achieved reaccreditation through the National Council for Private School Accreditation, a national organization that serves as a review panel for the standards and review procedures of private school accrediting agencies.

The distinction will last for 5 years, at which point AMS will be eligible to apply for reaccreditation once again.

Among the commendations specifically cited by NCPSA in their accreditation report were AMS’s:

  • “Continued outstanding educational service to the Montessori community, as well as its forward thinking approach to giving its membership the latest in technological services”
  • “Continued ability to look at its own past, build upon it, bring it into the 21st century, and still be able to reflect the truly authentic Montessori process”
  • “Standards that reflect the mission and purpose of the organization in keeping with the goals and philosophy of Montessori education”
  • Continuous effort to provide a 21st Century updated accreditation manual that maintains the Montessori distinctives [sic] while providing leadership, vision, and direction to its community.

Because AMS is member of NCPSA, schools that are accredited by AMS are also accredited by NCPSA—yet another prestigious distinction those schools can share with their communities.
