A note from Penny HildeBrandt Cichucki, chair of the AMS Living Legacy Nomination Committee.

Is there someone you would like to nominate as the AMS 2013 Living Legacy, based on his or her outstanding dedication and leadership to the AMS and larger Montessori communities? If so, share your thoughts with us on this nomination form by September 30!

Together with my colleagues on the Living Legacy Nomination Committee, I will review all nominations and make a recommendation to the AMS Board of Directors, who will make the final selection.

The AMS Living Legacy tribute provides us with a mechanism to formally honor individuals whose volunteerism and professional work have had a significant impact on Montessori education. And, donations in honor of the Living Legacy support another cherished AMS practice: the awarding of scholarships to aspiring Montessori educators at AMS-affiliated teacher education programs.

The 2013 Living Legacy will join the ranks of such notable individuals as Chandra Fernando, this year’s honoree, who has given tirelessly and creatively to Montessori education for more than 50 years. Chandra will be delivering a keynote presentation at the opening celebration of our AMS 2012 Annual Conference in San Francisco—I hope you will join us to share in the festivities!

The first AMS Living Legacy award was bestowed in 1993. We at AMS look forward, with great anticipation, to your nominations for 2013—marking 20 years of this venerable tradition.
