Webinars hosted by the American Montessori Society are an economical way to bring real-time, interactive learning experiences right into your office, classroom, or home. Presented by Montessori educators and other experts in related fields, our webinars are a convenient and efficient way to earn 1.5 clock hours that qualify for the AMS professional development requirement.

Many of our webinars are also available for rental as webcasts, allowing you to fit professional development into your schedule at the time that works best for you.

Unless otherwise noted, the prices for webinars are:

Individuals (1 participant at 1 computer)
$45 AMS member
$65 general public 

Organizations (unlimited participants at 1 computer)
$175 AMS member school or affiliated teacher education program
$225 non-member school, unaffiliated program, or other nonmember organization

If you register for a webinar and then cancel, we will credit your payment toward another Webinar of your choice.

Registration for webinars closes at 4:00 PM (ET) on the day of the presentation.

“Building Support Systems for Students with Special Needs”

This webinar will look at 2 systems of proven efficacy in supporting students with special needs: Response to Intervention—a systemic, multi-tiered, individualized approach—and student support teams. All content will be specific to the Montessori environment from the perspective of both a Montessori-trained administrator/former teacher and a teacher trained in special education.
You will come away with an understanding of:
• What Response to Intervention is, and why it is essential to student support
• How you can implement a Response to Intervention process in your classroom or school 
• What student support teams are, how you can create them, and how they can help
• How to compile and apply behavioral/academic/observational data at each step  
You will also learn of one school’s journey to develop both a student support team and a Response to Intervention process that follows the principles of the Montessori environment.

In addition, you will be given access to a variety of resources and tools that you can implement immediately in your own learning environment.

Dena AuCoin, MEd, is the assistant academic chair for the educational studies department at Kaplan University and is near completion of a doctoral dissertation on collaboration between Montessori and special education teachers. She has worked for and collaborated with a public Montessori school in Suttons Bay, MI.

Connie Laufersky, MEd, is head of school at Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy in Suttons Bay, MI. AMS-credentialed (Secondary I-II and Administrator).
