Practical Life is an integral part of the Montessori Elementary classroom—but it can be challenging to find meaningful and purposeful activities for the children in the Montessori second plane of development (ages 6 – 12).
This webinar will focus on the Montessori Elementary Practical Life curriculum through the lens of service-learning in the context of the individual, the classroom, and the greater community. We will illustrate how these activities foster the grace and courtesy that is necessary for developing a service-oriented mindset and future success. We will discuss service and the activities of Elementary Practical Life within the framework of the planes of development and Montessori’s understanding of the human tendencies. We will provide new insight into activities that are meaningful and purposeful to the Elementary child and provide concrete examples and projects.
- Ability to demonstrate how Elementary Practical Life is different from 3-6 through planes of development and Montessori’s Human Tendencies
- Understand why Practical Life is important at the Elementary level
- Feel confident integrating examples and projects provided in your own classrooms
