Overview

With the universal Pre-K movement gaining momentum nationally, Montessori Early Childhood programs are faced with the challenge of demonstrating measurable progress towards Common-Core-based learning standards. This webinar will offer insights into how to align Montessori curriculum at the Early Childhood level with Common Core learning standards.

We will explore 2 New York City schools’ paths towards becoming aligned with state stands following the implementation of citywide UPK in 2014. This will include analysis of data collection and documentation of progress at the level of the school, the classroom, and the individual child. Most important, we will emphasize how educators and schools can remain true to their core Montessori values and philosophy while adopting measures that demonstrate how our pre-existing practices align with state standards.

Learner outcomes:

  • Become familiarized with the Pre-K Common Core Standards
  • Understand direct links between Montessori Early Childhood curricula and Pre-K Common Core Standards
  • Come away with multimedia observation and data collection processes that will help you to demonstrate Common Core alignment in your classrooms.

Gelsey Steinbrecher, MEd (urban education), is the practicum coordinator and an Early Childhood instructor for the West Side Montessori School Teacher Education Program in New York City. AMS-credentialed (Early Childhood).
