Spend a holiday weekend exploring topics of relevance and interest with renowned leaders in the educational field while relaxing with friends and colleagues in a rejuvenating tropical location. You'll have opportunities to network with school leaders from around the United States, exchange ideas, and recharge your battery at the mid-point of your school year.
“The Connect & Disconnect Dilemma”
With facilitator Catherine Steiner-Adair, EdD
E-mail, Facebook, texting, tweeting, blogging—are we too tangled in the technology craze? Refresh and replenish with your colleagues as you explore how, as educational leaders, you can find balance in nourishing healthy relationships and boundaries in this digital age. You will also come away with tools to guide your faculty and families to “push pause” on the tech takeover.
About Catherine Steiner-Adair
Dr. Catherine Steiner-Adair is an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, school consultant, and author with a special interest in the impact of cultural values on the educational and psychological development of children.
A clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Catherine’s current research is focused on how technology and the Internet are fragmenting families—and what can be done about it. How the “tech effect” puts children’s development at risk, and turning technology into an ally for creativity and community, are among the topics she addresses.
Catherine is also an associate psychologist at McLean Hospital and the creator of “ Full of Ourselves: A Wellness Program to Advance Girl Power, Health, and Leadership”—the first successful school-based primary prevention program of its kind—as well as a private therapist.
She has authored 2 books: The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age (August 2013 publication) and Full of Ourselves, about her work with eating disorders.
Catherine has appeared on NPR, PBS, CNN, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and The Discovery Channel. In print, she’s been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and National Geographic, as well as Independent School magazine (winter 2013 edition).
She is married to leadership consultant Fred Adair (whom you will have the pleasure of meeting at the retreat) and is the parent of a former Montessori student.
