Day of Service in New Orleans
The American Montessori Society Peace Retreat will include a Day of Service on Friday, October 7, 9:45 AM – 4:00 PM.
Working in nearby New Orleans under the oversight of the St. Bernard Project, we will be helping to rebuild homes that remain devastated more than 10 years after the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. St. Bernard Project is a nonprofit rebuilding organization whose mission is to shorten the time between disaster and full recovery by ensuring that disaster-impacted communities recover in a prompt, efficient, and predictable manner. Since 2006, they have worked with more than 100,000 volunteers to rebuild homes in Louisiana, Texas, New York City, and more.
In New Orleans, an estimated 6,000 families who owned homes before Hurricane Katrina still do not have the funds or resources necessary to rebuild. Your support will help bring a family one day closer to home.
No building experience is needed—instruction and tools will be provided. Lunch will be provided, as well.
