About Earning CPDs at the AMS Annual Conference

Continuing Professional Development Hours (CPDs)

To receive CPD hours, you must have your conference badge scanned at qualifying events. We’ve significantly refined the process from last year, as Heather Gerker, director of conferences, explains in this message. We hope you will be pleased with the results.

Qualifying events are workshops, keynote addresses, networking sessions, day of service, school tours, and the living legacy address. CPD hours are not transferable as college or university credit hours. Attendance to earn CPD hours will be tracked utilizing scanning technology in order that our CPD hours are acceptable to as many states as possible.

Your badge may be scanned as early as 15 minutes before the event, and up to 15 minutes after. Exceptions include keynote addresses (30 minutes before and after), and networking sessions (during the event times only).

Full conference registration gives you access to free events Thursday afternoon through Sunday. By attending these events you can earn up to 20 CPD hours.

Maximum CPD hours per day:

  • Thursday: CPD hours vary according to event. (All Thursday events qualify except for the workshop “Hands-On Art: An Introduction to Printmaking”.)
  • Friday: 8.25 hours
  • Saturday: 7.25 hours
  • Sunday: 2.75 hours

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

In cooperation with Xavier University, AMS is pleased to offer conference attendees the option of purchasing CEUs for their contact hours at the conference. Each contact hour equals .1 CEU, with 10 hours equaling 1 CEU. Attendance to earn CEU hours will be tracked utilizing scanning technology in order that our CPD hours are acceptable to as many states as possible.

To purchase CEUs, complete the order form and email or fax it to us (212-358-1256) by April 14, 2017. Or you may send it via postal mail with a postmark date no later than April 14, 2017: American Montessori Society, 116 East 16th Street, New York, NY 10003. We will also accept the forms onsite at the conference, at the Registration Desk. Forms received April 14, 2017, will incur a $25 late fee. Late forms are submitted to Xavier on the 15th of every month.

Fees: $35 for up to 10.5 clock hours (1 CEU); $45 for up to 20 hours (2 CEUs); $55 for up to 30 hours (3 CEUs).

Refer to the above schedule for qualifying and non-qualifying events.

Individual State Professional Development Fulfillment

State departments of education and state licensing agencies may accept attendance at the AMS conference as approved professional development hours. To determine eligibility, check with the individual agencies or department in your state. If you would like us to register for approval in your state, please submit approval instructions and forms (obtained from your state department or agency) to us. Determinations about eligibility are made by the department or agency, not by AMS.

Earning CPDs

This year, full-conference registrants will have the opportunity to earn up to 20 CPD hours. From workshops to keynotes to networking, there are many events to keep you engaged.
