What does it mean to build an antiracist Montessori community, and what does developmentally appropriate, antibiased practice look like? Learn how to fully embody Maria Montessori’s vision for peace education as you explore philosophies of social justice and equity work in Montessori communities. You will leave with concrete strategies to implement in your school.

About the Presenters

Amelia Sherwood

Amelia Sherwood, MEd, is family partnership coordinator at Elm City Montessori School in New Haven, CT, and secretary of the board of Montessori for Social Justice.

Katie Kitchens

Katie Kitchens, MA, is a guest lecturer at the Montessori Teacher Academy, in Dana Point, CA, vice president of Montessori for Social Justice, and an inaugural member of the AMS Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program. AMS-credentialed (Early Childhood).

Tiffany M. Jewell

Tiffany M. Jewell is a Lower Elementary teacher at Montessori School of Northampton, in Western Massachusetts, and co-president of the Montessori for Social Justice founding board. AMS-credentialed (Elementary I).

Britt Hawthorne

Britt Hawthorne is a homeschooling Montessori directress in Houston, TX, an Elementary teacher specialist for public Montessori classrooms, and a member of Montessori for Social Justice. AMS-credentialed (Elementary I–II).
