2017 Voting Rules

All voting is online. There are no paper ballots. Voting opens on January 4, 2017 and closes January 18, 2017 at 3 PM Eastern (12 PM Pacific).

Voting for the AMS 2017 Board of Directors is now closed.

Individuals: To vote, log in to the AMS website using your e-mail address and password.

Heads of schools: To cast a vote for your school, log in using your school’s login and password. To cast your individual vote, log in using your e-mail address and password.

Directors of teacher education programs: To cast a vote for your TEP, log in using your TEP’s login and password. To cast your individual vote, log in using your e-mail address and password.

Election of Professional Directors

Individual members: For the open Professional Director positions, every current individual member (teacher, head of school, teacher educator, adult learner, and general member) has 1 vote.

School members
Schools in the U.S.: For the open Professional Director positions, every Accredited, Full, and Associate member school receives 1 vote per every 100 students enrolled, or portion thereof. Every Initiate member school has 1 vote. Satellites of Accredited, Full, Associate, and Initiate member schools do not vote directly. Satellite enrollments are added to the main site enrollment and the main site school casts all votes. Schools with multiple votes may cast all their votes for 1 candidate, or distribute their votes over multiple candidates.

Schools outside the U.S.: For the open Professional Director positions, every Accredited, Full, Associate, and Initiate school member gets 1 vote. Satellite locations, if any, do not vote and no additional votes are allotted to main schools based on their satellite locations.

Teacher education programs: For the open Professional Director positions, every TEP has 1 vote per AMS-affiliated level for the following levels: Infant & Toddler, Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Administrator. TEPs with multiple votes may cast all their votes for 1 candidate, or distribute their votes over multiple candidates.

Election of the Board-Nominated Slate

Individual members: Every current individual member (teacher, head of school, teacher educator, adult learner, and general member) has 1 vote (to either Approve or Not Approve) the Board-Nominated Slate.

Organizational members: Every Accredited, Full, Associate, Initiate, and International member school, and every AMS-affiliated TEP, has 1 vote (to either Approve or Not Approve) the Board-Nominated Slate on behalf of the entire organization, including satellites and/or additional levels/locations.

Election of the Chair of the Teacher Educators Section

Voting for the Chair of the Teacher Educators Section is open to each AMS-affiliated teacher education program. Each eligible TEP may cast a single yYesor No vote to approve the candidate in this uncontested election.

Election of TES Members-at-Large to the Teacher Education Action Commission

Voting for the Teacher Education Action Commission is open to each AMS-affiliated teacher education program. Each eligible TEP has 1 vote per AMS-affiliated level for the following levels: Infant & Toddler, Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Administrator. TEPs with multiple votes may cast all their votes for 1 candidate, or distribute their votes across multiple candidates.
