Voting Rules

All voting is taking place online. There are no paper ballots.

To vote online, individuals must log in to the AMS website using their individual member login ID and password. Heads of schools and teacher education program directors cannot cast their individual votes while logged in as their school or TEP, nor can the votes for the organization be cast while logged in as the individual head of school or TEP director.

Election of Professional Directors & School Accreditation Commission Representative

  • Individual members: For the open Professional Director positions, every current individual member (teacher, head of school, teacher educator, adult learner, and general member) has 1 vote. The same holds true for the open School Accreditation Commission Representative position.
  • School members: For the open Professional Director positions, every Accredited, Full, and Associate member school receives 1 vote per every 100 students enrolled, or portion thereof. Satellite schools do not vote directly. Satellite enrollments are added to the main site enrollment and the main site school casts all votes. Schools with multiple votes may cast all their votes for 1 candidate, or distribute their votes over multiple candidates. The same holds true for the open School Accreditation Commission Representative position.
  • Teacher education programs: For the open Professional Director positions, every TEP has 1 vote per AMS-affiliated level for the following levels: Infant & Toddler, Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, and Administrator. The same holds true for the open School Accreditation Commission Representative position.
  • Initiate member schools: For the open Professional Director positions, each Initiate member school has 1 vote. Satellites, if any, do not vote directly. The same holds true for the open School Accreditation Commission Representative position.
  • International school members: For the open Professional Director positions, every International, Accredited, Full, Associate, and Initiate school member gets 1 vote.
