March 21, 2016. To help make professional development more accessible to Montessori public school educators and others who might typically be underrepresented, the American Montessori Society is involved in several exciting initiatives:
- For AMS members who are involved in the Montessori public sector, AMS has launched a new online discussion group.
For the Cincinnati Montessori Society Spring Conference (April), AMS is underwriting the registration for 42 teachers and principals representing the 7 public Montessori schools in Cincinnati so that they may attend at no cost.
For the Montessori for Social Justice Conference (June), AMS is giving each of the 6 public Montessori schools in Massachusetts 1 free registration. AMS is also helping to underwrite travel expenses for 10 AMS members who work in AMS-member public and charter schools (or schools that serve low-income students).
And, so that everyone at the Montessori for Social Justice Conference may attend “Understanding Structural Racism” free of charge, AMS is underwriting the cost of the workshop.
The support AMS is providing to Montessori educators aligns with the organization’s vision of “a world in which quality Montessori education is widely recognized, highly desired, and accessible to all.”
