Dr. Maria Montessori established the International Montessori Congress in 1929 to raise the awareness and understanding of Montessori education. Held approximately every 4 years, this is the first time in nearly 40 years that the Congress is returning to the U.S. AMS is proud to be a participating organization in this, the Association Montessori Internationale’s signature event!
Hosted by the Montessori Institute Northwest, the 2013 International Congress will take place July 31 – August 3 in Portland, OR.
The Congress will explore how Montessori education is guided by children’s natural development, including how that growth fosters a respectful relationship with the environment. The Congress theme, “Montessori: Guided By Nature,” takes root in that dynamic relationship and celebrates that we are all uniquely tied to the physical and ecological makeup of our surroundings.
Days will be structured around the following themes: “Origins and Potential,” “The Natural Child,” “Society and Nature,” and “Our World, Our Legacy.”
Complete information, including registration and hotel reservations, can be found on the International Montessori Congress Web site.
