October 31, 2012 update: In the aftermath of the hurricane, we still have no power, phone service, or e-mail at AMS. If you've sent us e-mail, it might look as though we've received it (because e-mails aren't bouncing back)—but we haven't. And we will not, until we're back "on the grid." To avoid dashed expecations we urge you to hold off on writing to us till we let you know that we're online. We are so sorry for the inconvenience, we miss you, and we thank you for your patience!
October 28, 2012. With Hurricane Sandy closing in on the East Coast, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority shut down all subway, bus, and commuter rail service starting this evening. It is not certain when service will resume. Because AMS staff travel to the office via the mass transit system—and also to help ensure their safety—the office will be closed Monday, October 29. A determination about the Tuesday workday is still to be made.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
To those of you who are in the path of the storm, we urge you to take all precautions necessary so that you may remain safe, healthy, and comfortable.
To those who have met with tragedy or in any way suffered as a result of the hurricane, we extend our heartfelt sympathies.
