For Immediate Release

October 15, 2012. At its meeting on October 7 and 8, 2012, the AMS Board of Directors approved several important changes to the voting rules for the upcoming 2013 elections.
- Voting rights are now extended to Initiate member schools, which previously were unable to vote.
- Adult learners and teacher educators have been explicitly added to the list of AMS individual members who are eligible to vote.
- Members will (as always) vote for individual candidates. But (new this year) voters will also be asked to approve or disapprove the election of a single slate of six other candidates, nominated by the Board to promote diversity and ensure that the Board includes individuals with expertise in needed specialties. Members will not vote separately for each candidate in the group, but for the slate as a whole.
Candidates for the 2013 Board elections will be announced later this month. Voting, both by mail and online, will open in mid-November.
If you have questions about voting, contact AMS staff member Gregory Jones.
