Is there someone you would like to nominate as the AMS 2014 Living Legacy, based on his or her outstanding dedication and leadership to the AMS and larger Montessori communities? If so, share your thoughts with us on this nomination form by November 13!
The AMS Living Legacy tribute provides us with a mechanism to formally honor individuals whose volunteerism and professional work have had a significant impact on Montessori education. Donations in honor of the Living Legacy support another cherished AMS practice: the awarding of scholarships to aspiring Montessori educators at AMS-affiliated teacher education programs.
The 2014 Living Legacy will join the ranks of such notable individuals as Joyce Pickering, this year’s honoree, who has devoted her life to addressing the needs of students with learning differences. Joyce will deliver a keynote presentation at the opening celebration of our AMS 2013 Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida—I hope you will join us to share in the festivities!
The Living Legacy Nomination Committee will review all nominations and make a recommendation to the AMS Board of Directors, who will make the final selection. The 2014 Living Legacy will be announced during the Annual Meeting at the AMS 2013 Annual Conference.
The first AMS Living Legacy award was bestowed in 1993. Since that time AMS has awarded $450,000 to 235 aspiring Montessori teachers in honor of these exceptional individuals. We at AMS look forward, with great anticipation, to your nominations for 2014!
